Gourdon

Perched dramatically on a cliff 760 meters above sea level, the medieval village of Gourdon is one of the official “Plus Beaux Villages de France” — and for good reason. With its panoramic views over the French Riviera and its charming stone streets, it’s a short but memorable stop that fits perfectly into a day trip.

How to Get to Gourdon

Gourdon is best reached by car. It’s located about 20 minutes from Grasse and 45 minutes from Nice via scenic mountain roads. The drive itself is part of the charm, especially if you follow the winding Route de Gorges du Loup, which passes waterfalls and cliffs along the way.

Parking in Gourdon

There’s a large free parking lot just before you enter the village (you can’t drive into the center itself). From there, it’s just a short and mostly flat walk into the heart of Gourdon.

What to See in Gourdon

Gourdon is small — you can explore the whole village in about an hour — but it’s packed with charm. Expect cobblestone lanes, artisan boutiques, and incredible views over the entire Côte d’Azur, from Nice to Antibes.

The main highlight is the Château de Gourdon, which is privately owned and not always open to the public, but its exterior and gardens offer beautiful photo ops. You’ll also find local perfume shops, craft stores, and small art galleries. Don’t miss the panoramic viewpoint at the edge of the village — on a clear day, the Mediterranean stretches out endlessly before you.

Accessibility in Gourdon

Gourdon is relatively compact and easier to navigate than many other hilltop villages, though the streets are still cobbled and slightly sloped. Most shops and viewpoints are reachable with moderate mobility, but wheelchair users may find parts of the village challenging due to uneven ground and the lack of ramps in some areas.

The main entrance and viewpoint area are the most accessible parts, and the short walk from the parking area is manageable for many.

How Much Time to Spend in Gourdon

You only need about an hour to visit Gourdon, making it a great half-day trip — or better yet, a perfect combo with nearby Grasse. Start your day with perfume and history in Grasse, then head up into the hills for fresh mountain air and epic views in Gourdon.
